The scenery of the Dorset countryside and that of the surrounding Devon and Somerset borders is truly spectacular.
Gently rolling hills, chalk lowlands, woodlands and river valleys are criss crossed with country footpaths and sweeping views.
In the summer hedgerows burst with campion and cow parsley and the rich farmland is full of golden wheat and barley. The sounds of birdsong and tractors fill the country lanes and for visitors, the pace of life is wonderfully slow.
The abundance of flora and fauna makes this a haven for nature lovers. There are a number of country parks and nature reserves across the county which are open to the public, protecting ancient downlands and coppices, river meadows and heathland.
Much of the countryside in the Dorset area has been designated as areas of outstanding natural beauty and its rich heritage is apparent in the many listed buildings, historical sites and gardens.
