The property

Myrtle Cottage is a delightful two-bedroom stone cottage situated in the village of Uplyme, a delightful rural setting on the borders of Devon and Dorset. An AONB, the village offers families the perfect location to enjoy the countryside with popular beaches, seaside towns, and the dramatic UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast close by. With off-road parking, and sleeping up to four guests, this 200-year-old cottage is bursting with character and is ideal for those wishing to enjoy a relaxing break at any time of the year. Originally part of the village forge, the cottage has been sympathetically extended over the years and is now a bright and welcoming cottage with a stylish interior and thoughtful touches throughout. The sitting area is an inviting and relaxing space, with the original inglenook fireplace with an electric wood burner and bread oven giving a wonderful focal point in the room. While the electric fan woodburning stove provides comfort and warmth for the cooler evenings. The adjoining kitchen/diner is equipped with everything needed for a self-catered holiday and is a great space for creating meals that everyone can enjoy together around the dining table. Bifold doors at the rear of the cottage lead to the decked terrace, providing the perfect spot for your morning cup of coffee, while enjoying views over Uplyme, the church, and the rolling Devon countryside and beyond. Steps lead down to the enclosed garden which is a little haven to sit back and relax with a book, with patio seating areas with tables and chairs, inviting alfresco dining when the weather allows. When it is time for bed, head upstairs to find the two bedrooms; a king-size bedroom and a twin, with the family bathroom also on this floor. A second bathroom, a stylish shower room, is located on the ground floor. The vibrant village of Uplyme is a wonderful location with a popular village pub, The Talbot Arms, which serves great home-cooked food and local beverages. Additionally, there is a small convenience store, with a post office and petrol station, for your everyday essentials only a short stroll away. You also have other local amenities, such as a tennis court, a children's play area, as well as a cricket club. A delightful and picturesque riverside walk from Uplyme takes you into Lyme Regis, a spectacular seaside town with its family-friendly beaches, famous Cobb Harbour, and other popular visitor attractions, including the Marine Aquarium. A regular local bus service also runs to and from Lyme Regis. Popular days out include; the Heritage Coast Centre at Charmouth, a place to learn about the area's diverse geological history and pick up tips about fossil hunting on the shores. The pretty fishing village of Beer is another great choice, with its limestone cliffs and beach, where it is easy to lose a few hours sitting in a deckchair watching the local fishermen hauling their catches ashore. Myrtle Cottage is the ideal place to enjoy it all, however you choose to spend your stay. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village of Uplyme, on the borders of Devon and Dorset, is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, criss-crossed by bridleways and footpaths including the East Devon Way, and providing perfect country walks and superb views. The area was chosen by TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall for his River Cottage HQ at Park Farm, where you can treat yourself to a great meal. Just a short drive takes you to the stunning Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis. This delightful historic seaside town boasts a maze of narrow streets, with an interesting array of shops and cafes, whilst the sandy beach lends itself to great bathing and watersports, and the bustling little harbour offers regular fishing trips, or try your hand at fossil hunting. Within an easy drive is the quaint town of Axminster, or how about a ride on the Seaton Tramway? A glorious location for a varied and interesting holiday.
