Ross House

Ross House is a wonderfully sunny, bright, comfortable house.

The views from every room are magnificent and we felt right at home there immediately! Despite it being very cold outside the house stayed toasty warm, and the little garden is such a sun trap we even sat out there occasionally. There was an issue with the bath at one point but a lovely plumber came round promptly and sorted it out. We would highly recommend Ross House and look forward ourselves to returning when we can (-:

This was our third stay at Ross House.

We are totally charmed by the location and the stunning sea views from every room, as well as being in the centre of town, an easy walk from everywhere. Lyme is just our favourite place and it is a dream to stay in Ross House, which is often fully booked. Having said all that, it was incredibly expensive for us, a massive treat. The house could do with a little upgrading to justify its 4 star rating. The music from Seasalt was a little annoying at times ( they didn’t play music, or so loudly, previously). Thanks so much for the welcome pack and the wine, which was much appreciated. We will be back! I really hope so. It was so soothing being next to the sea all the time and looking out at the Cobb and the changing landscape. A highlight for me was watching the sun rise and the sun set.

This is our 3rd stay at Ross house.

.having stayed at many different places in the 40 years we’ve been visiting, this is by far the favourite The sea views from each room are exceptional! The central location is perfect, and, also, being down a passageway, very quiet and private. It is very well equipped with everything you need, easy self check in, comfy beds and a very welcome selection of goodies - much appreciated thank you!

The standard of this house is not four star.

We were so disappointed in the lack of cleanliness and lack of maintenance. We have documented the problems we accounted extensively to Sykes Cottages to which we have had no reply. Also submitted receipts for purchases but not reimbursed to date. Numerous photos were taken by us and the cleaner from Lyme Cottages who was called in on our arrival but no-one had responded to these images. We have given a reasonable amount of time for response from all concerned but will now take advice on how to proceed re: compensation. To add insult to injury we have seen that Ross House is now being marketed at a lower price!

The location is great and the layout of the property with the living room upstairs is spot on.

The property is really tired though, and needs a deep clean and re-decoration throughout.

The house is a perfect location for a holiday in Lyme Regis.

Older building but very well updated to meet modern needs and comfort. If anything, the photos in the online listing do not do sufficient justice to the beautiful views of the town, the beach and the Cobb available from every room.

We stayed in the house just before Christmas.

It is in an absolutely beautiful and perfect location, just minutes from the sea and in the centre of town with easy access to shops. Every bedroom has a sea view, as does the siting room. It was well heated generally with a good boiler, although as expected when there was freezing cold winds outside there is only so much an old house can do to keep out the cold! It was very comfortable and the kitchen was fitted out beautifully. Unfortunately we had a few problems. The biggest was that the house did not have winter duvets, just very light summer duvets, so we were very cold our first night (this was in deep December!). Because we arrived on a Saturday, our first full day was a Sunday and so no one was able to deliver more blankets that day. We ended up ordering blankets on Amazon. Heavier duvets were delivered on the Monday. Everyone was nice and polite, but it was a real pity we had to deal with this extra hassle. The electric fire in the sitting room didn't work; when we pointed that out, we were told that they had tried to fix it already and failed. It was strange this had not been specified in the explanation of the house, and it would have helped with the heat when there was a winter storm. Finally, the downstairs bathroom did not have any heat or hot water. It was not a big deal, really, but the problem was that a maintenance man turned up unannounced, asked to be let into the house, worked on the system for a while, and then asked if he could turn off the electricity while we were there cooking. We said no, of course, given that this was meant to be a holiday. It turns out the owner had asked the maintenance man to come without the knowledge of Sykes Cottages. We were very unhappy to be disturbed like this. So overall it was a very mixed stay: exquisite spot, wonderful rooms, very comfortable, great bath, feeling very luxurious; but bedding not properly prepared for winter, electric fire not working, very dirty downstairs rug, and an unwelcome visit and disturbing visit from a maintenance man. In the end, we loved it enough that we would go back and I have already recommended it to friends--with a note of its imperfections!

Excellent property.

Particularly impressed by the property being dressed for Christmas. Definitely one to revisit. One very minor item of feedback, the electric radiator in the downstairs toilet didn't seem to be working.

This is an incredible place to stay - the views are extraordinary and even in bad weather you are happy to stay in and just watch - the sea is in every room.

Beds were comfortable, kitchen was very well set up with all modern appliances and well equipped which made it easy to cook. Lots of little places where some proper maintenance is needed - everything looking a bit tired. And the electrical system is clearly very outdated - a fuse blew our last night there leaving no wifi, no heat or hot water. This was remedied the next day by Lyme Bay but it was a bit uncomfortable.

Super location and house with amazing views from every room.

The terrace was a huge bonus - being able to sit out with all day sun was great. Very clean and tidy. All the basics you need and a lovely welcome pack. It does have a end of a busy season feel with carpets needing cleaning and some repairs needing doing. But not enough to put us off returning as soon as we can.

Again and again, we love Ross House.

We will be booking once more for our usual week!

The property is tired, grubby in places and in need of proper maintenance.

It is in a wonderful location and could be fantastic but is in serious need of tlc. The properties should be assessed regularly by LymeBay holidays and problems should not brought to their attention by the paying guests.

It's all about the stunning views.

It has taken me 6 years to get back to Ross House for a second stay and it was worth the wait. Its just as good as I remembered. The location is the best in town.

We have stayed at Ross House on many occasions over the years and we find it to be comfortable and appreciate all that the owner has done to make it so. Of course, it is the tranquil view and beautiful setting which we love - it has made Lyme a most happy place for our family over the years and so we are immensely grateful to the owner for making their property available and for giving us so much joy.

Ross house is situated in a great location and the house was much bigger than expected.

Previous reviews mentioned poor cleanliness and dated decoration but on arrive it exceeded our expectations and suited our need perfectly. I would highly recommend this Ross house and would definitely stay there in the future.

A beautiful holiday property that was well equipped and ideally located near the beach and charming shops.

As with so many popular resorts, car parking (especially unloading/loading luggage) was a pain.

The property is in a great location and has an amazing sea view from all windows.

From a cleanliness perspective the property could definitely benefit from some TLC. It’s quirky and has great features but just general decor and finishing touches let it down. Also, the TV didn’t work either upstairs in the living room or kitchen. It turned on but no terrestrial channels available. Also would have been nice to have some sun loungers or better chairs outside to relax on. As it was very hot, but we couldn’t enjoy the outside space to its fullest. Good, property but needs some love for the price you’re paying.

A few things would make the property pretty much perfect 1. Cleaning very large amounts of seagull poo off windows… we appreciate its an ongoing problem but it spectacularly ruined the view last week!! 2. Providing sacks for linen so that we could do as asked with it at the end of our stay. 3. Provide more purple recycling bags and make sure all 3 sets of recycling instructions say the same thing. 4. Fix the thermostat. 5. Do something about 5amp socket in sitting room which, if one had a crawling baby, would be a risk. Hope these are helpful suggestions!

Wonderful stay in this comfortable house with beautiful coastal views from every window.

An issue with the twin beds was resolved swiftly and efficiently - we can't praise the Sykes team and the maintenance people enough. Would highly recommend Ross House. We hope to be back.

Had a great stay at Ross House, it is in a perfect location with wonderful views over the sea.

The house was well equipped and a lovely place for a pre-Christmas get together with family.

The broken springs on the twin beds make it uncomfortable to sleep in and my back sore.

These two beds need replacing.

These are our observations which we hope you find helpful: No high chair or stair gate even though paperwork suggested there would be.

No attempt to weed garden, sweep back patio, sweep front path or clean outside windowsills. Hazards like ladders and umbrella stands left out in garden - so not child-friendly. Sun umbrella was not big enough and it was broken. Full-length mirror in master bedroom just propped up could have created a dangerous accident for our 2 yr old. Raw plug and hook have come away from wall in master bedroom so curtain can’t be held back - we reported this several years ago, House smelt a little stale. Chair arms in kitchen were sticky and some drawers etc. Didn’t get the impression that a good ‘Covid’ clean had been carried out. Bleach hadn’t been used in the toilets and the hot water tap in downstairs toilet was dirty. There is still an issue with the bath plug. The two single bed mattresses probably need replacing as they have become very soft and very squeaky. Although we do love the position of Ross House and very much appreciated the bag of goodies and pint of milk, we were disappointed that the house didn’t feel as fresh and holiday-ready as we expected it to.
