The property
Charleston Cottage is a delightful period property situated in the coastal village of Charmouth in Dorset, on the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Believed to date back to the 1800s and once forming part of an old coaching Inn, this property has been sympathetically converted into a spacious two-bedroom holiday home retaining many character features. Ideal for couples, families, and friends, this pet-friendly property is just a short walk from the beach and local amenities and is perfect for enjoying a seaside break at any time of the year.
Step inside to the bright and spacious living room with high ceilings and a Victorian fireplace. Sumptuous sofas provide the ideal spot to sit back and relax with the electric flame effect fire giving the room a cosy feel during the cooler times. Glazed double doors lead to the adjoining kitchen, which is perfectly equipped for a self-catering holiday, whether creating hearty breakfasts or a tasty evening meal which can be enjoyed together around the dining table. At the rear of the cottage there is a handy lobby with skylight, housing the washing machine and leading to the rear garden. The family bathroom is also located on this floor.
Heading upstairs, you will find the two bedrooms. The double bedroom at the front of the cottage has a handy ensuite shower room, with the bunk bedroom at the rear enjoying views over the Marshwood Vale.
Outside, the enclosed garden is arranged on two levels with a patio area and seating immediately outside the back door. Steps lead down to the lawn with a path taking you to the garden gate and the rear car parking area, which is accessed via a coaching arch from The Street.
Regarding the area, Charmouth has a lot to offer, from relaxing at the beach to enjoying one of the many coastal walks including the renowned South West Coastal Path and Golden Cap. Dogs are welcome on parts of the beach all year round. At the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre, you can learn about the area's rich geology and get up close to Attenborough’s Sea Dragon and other fossil exhibits before perhaps joining one of the guided fossil walks to find your own fossils on the shore. The local shops and eateries are within easy walking distance and include Charmouth Bakery, renowned locally for its fresh bread and pastries, as well as two village convenience stores for your everyday essentials. For times when you prefer not to cook, Charmouth has two popular village pubs serving local food and beverages, and no trip to the seaside is complete without tucking into some freshly cooked fish and chips.
With good bus and road links, you can easily explore the surrounding area, with a bus stop conveniently located opposite the cottage. Head into the neighbouring town of Lyme Regis with its iconic Cobb harbour and popular visitor attractions such as the Marine Aquarium and The Town Mill.
A family favourite is the Axe Valley Animal Park, located in the Axe Valley just outside Axminster; this compact zoo is home to a variety of animals from around the world, from antelopes to zebra. Other popular days out include Seaton with its heritage tram rides, Pecorama in Beer or the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth.
