“Parking was poor, we have an average sized car which was impossible to park in the allocated space without overhanging next door's space, fortunately the neighbour allowed us to park opposite their garage, otherwise we would have had to park off site.”
The general maintenance of the property was very poor with multiple items in need of maintaining, for example the front door would only work on the latch and wouldn't lock and the key was very stiff, noisy pipework, kitchen doors hanging off, broken bin, very loud floorboards (especially as the house is less than 30 years old) and shower curtain rail hanging off. All of these had been reported in the visitors book (some of them 2 years ago) and not been resolved.
The quality of the cleaning was poor, we had to sweep the kitchen upon arrival (cereal left on the floor so this clearly was not mopped), wash the dirty cups, there was an old pair of shoes in a draw in the bedroom, the cleaning bags were left in the middle of the landing and bedrooms and there was someone's underpants behind the chair in the living room. We were also asked to strip the beds before leaving which makes you wonder what the cleaners actually do!
Make sure to check The George pubs festivals also as on our first night they had live music in the beer garden (right next to the house) until 10:30pm meaning our children struggled to get to sleep as it was audible throughout the house.
Ultimately with some money spending on it, some personal touches inside (most cottages we have been to at least leave a pint of milk and a couple of tea bags) and it actually being cleaned properly this could be an excellent property as its location in Charmouth is very good, however due to the above it was categorically not worth the £1,600 we paid for the week. Having visited other 4* properties this year we have no idea how this has 4*.
