“The location of a property on the seafront was a prerequisite and it did not disappoint.”

However there are serious access issues :- 1. The gates to the carpark were permanently open and hence parking was insecure (worse than parking up outside as anyone could wander in and remain undetected). 2. A previous reviewer noted that the lift was broken and when we arrived it was "Out of Service". Therefore either it had not been functioning for weeks or it had broken down again. A previous reviewer noted that the lift was broken and when we arrived it was "Out of Service". Therefore either it had not been functioning for weeks or it had broken down again. We had the inconvenience of hauling baggage up three flights of a narrow, steep, winding staircase. The lift was "fixed" during our stay but there was always a nagging doubt whether or not we would arrive at our destination as the doors sometimes did not shut properly. 3. The key pad for the side door did not function when the code was input. By chance, the owner of the downstairs cafe was outside and told us the press the "Tradesman's" button for access which worked. If we had not bumped into him, we would have been none the wiser. He was aware it had been broken for a long time. Beggars belief. 4. The numbers on the entrance door lock box are extremely difficult to read even with the additional light and the box is set at a height for giants. As a general note, the building has been designed by an Architect to look pretty rather than for the benefit of people who actually have to live in it eg The kitchen area is so dark the lights always needed to be on even in broad daylight, rabbit warren of corridors, badly positioned columns in the basement making parking a car a major operation.....

We are sorry your stay did not meet your expectations. The car park gates remain open during the day for the convenience of guests. There has never been a problem with undetected wandering. Apologies if the lift was not working when you arrived for your stay but I am pleased to hear it was fixed. So sorry to hear you were unable to use the keypad to gain access and that the keybox was too high for you. I shall send a stern note to the architect and perhaps he or she will have the sense to ask your advice before designing their next building although I am not sure we can blame them for any rabbits in the corridors. I believe the columns in the basement are there to prevent the building falling down but then I’m no expert on architecture. I do hope that despite the design of our building you enjoyed your time in West Bay. Property Owner

About the location

WEST BAY

Bridport 1.5 miles; Lyme Regis 11 miles

West Bay, fondly known as “The Gateway to the Dorset Jurassic Coast” and popularised by the TV series Broadchurch, lies close to the glorious sandstone cliffs of Golden Cap, at the western end of the dramatic pebbly Chesil Beach. This is a wonderful seaside location, perfect for family holidays, offering scenic walks along the South West Coast Path, as well as ample opportunities to try your hand at sea fishing, crabbing, boating and golf. Visit the homes of Thomas Hardy and TE Lawrence, the Tank Museum at Bovington or the Naval air Museum at Yeovil. Only 1.5 miles away is the vibrant market town of Bridport, featured in the TV series, River Cottage. The area holds plenty of attractions to suit the whole family! Just a short drive West takes you to Charmouth for fossil hunting, to the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, and to River Cottage HQ near Axminster. To the East are the lovely Sub-tropical Gardens and Swannery at Abbotsbury, and the golden sands of Weymouth. This wonderful location makes an ideal base for a great family holiday.
